◆Norikura Kogen Zero Carbon Laboratory: 2nd intake of students to begin in mid-July 2023.

Norikura Kogen is the first Zero Carbon Park certified by the Ministry of the Environment and a leading decarbonization area in Matsumoto City, and various initiatives are currently underway to make it a model region for realizing a decarbonized society. In order to accelerate these efforts, the "Zero Lab" was launched last year as a community-type laboratory where people from inside and outside the region can learn about zero carbon and share experiments and practices. Last year, due to the large number of applicants, we had to make a selection.
We will begin accepting applications for the second term of the "Zero Lab" in mid-July 2023.The curriculum and application process for 2023 will be uploaded on our official website in the near future. Please check our official website and Instagram for the latest information.

◆Sustainable Tourism at Zero Carbon Park

Norikura Kogen hosts many school trips every May and June. In the past, most schools have mainly enjoyed outdoor activities, but a slight change is taking place.
In Norikura Kogen, sustainable tourism efforts to revitalize the local economy while protecting the natural environment include extermination of invasive alien species and utilization of thinned white birch wood.
As for the school trip program,Invasive Species Removal ProgramBirch coaster production programis taking place.

Invasive Species Removal ProgramIn the "Roots of Invasive Species Removal" session, participants listened to a conservation ranger explain about native species and the dangers of invasive species, and then experienced the actual removal work of uprooting the invasive species. Compared to the usual activities by rangers alone, a large group of people can remove a certain area at once.

Birch coaster production programwill produce birch coasters, which are distributed as a return gift for cooperation in the maintenance of trails in Norikura Kogen. First, participants will actually walk the trails and learn the difference between well-maintained trails and trails that need maintenance, and then they can learn the real approach to sustainable tourism by actually experiencing a craft that not only enjoys nature but also serves the community for the sake of nature by making a white birch coaster. This is a great opportunity to learn about sustainable tourism through hands-on experience of crafts that are beneficial to the community.
Although the program is still in its infancy, it is being implemented according to the needs of each school while being combined with previous outdoor programs.
