Norikura Echo Line

Prefectural Route 84 is a mountain route that leads from the Nagano Prefecture side to Mt. Norikura,
In particular, the route from Norikura Kogen to higher elevations is called "Echo Line" (Nagano Prefectural Road Norikura-dake Line).
The border between Nagano and Gifu Prefectures is the highest point that can be reached by public transportation vehicles in Japan, at 2,716 meters above sea level,
The Echo Line is known as the highest prefectural road in Japan that allows vehicular passage through highlands.
From the Sanbondaki gate up, though, private cars are restricted,
In summer, shuttle buses operate to climb Mt. Norikura and view the flower gardens of Tatamidaira,
The range of activities will be greatly expanded.

Norikura
grouse route

Norikura-dake, a sacred mountain that straddles Nagano and Gifu prefectures, is accessible by two car-free roads, the "Echo Line" from the Nagano Prefecture side and the "Skyline" from the Gifu Prefecture side, and as "the highest road in Japan that can be driven by bus," visitors can easily enjoy mountain scenery that exceeds 2,500 meters in elevation.

The Norikura grouse, an endangered species and a national protected species, is a symbol of the region. The Norikura Grouse Route was created as a sightseeing route that can be accessed from both Nagano and Gifu prefectures. Through this route, visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of unprecedented ways to appreciate the depth of Norikura-dake, its scenery, and the charms of its foothills, which cannot be seen from only one direction.

Environmental Considerations

The Norikura-dake Grouse Route is located in Chubu-Sangaku National Park,
A rich natural environment remains, with precious alpine plants and wild animals.
In order to pass on this rich environment to the next generation, there are five things that are important to the community.

1not to be taken
Do not pick plants, animals, insects, or other living things in the park.
2I won't throw it away.
Don't leave any leftovers or garbage and take it home.
3not go into
Be careful not to damage nature by walking off wooden paths or sidewalks or over plants and flowers.
4not giving
Do not approach or feed wild animals unnecessarily.
5Do not disturb the environment
Do not disturb the natural landscape, air, darkness or silence.
6not bring (something) into the country
No pets or exotic organisms allowed

Wildlife has a robust life force, but it is also fragile and can only live in a limited environment,
Once that environment is disrupted, it is not easy to restore it.
We ask all visitors to keep the above five considerations in mind while enjoying Norikuradake to the fullest,
Let's enjoy the wonderful nature of Mt. Norikura together.

About Access

The Norikura Grouse Route is a one-way route along two roads restricted to private cars: the Echo Line on the Nagano Prefecture side and the Skyline on the Gifu Prefecture side.
From both prefectural sides, visitors can cross the prefectural border via the "2716m elevation" bus stop, the highest in Japan, to access the base of the other side of Norikura-dake.
In addition to access using shuttle buses that operate from both prefectural sides, we are also planning to operate an e-bike drop-off service between Norikura Kanko Center and Hirayu Bus Terminal, as well as a test run for transporting cars and luggage, to provide visitors with more options for enjoying a round-trip tour of Norikura-dake.
