NORIKURA TIMES (Active Summer Arrives)

The highlands are becoming greener and summer is finally beginning in earnest! In this issue, we will introduce some active ways to enjoy Norikura Kogen in the coming season.

(1) Norikura-dake (Mt. Norikura) climbing and hill climbing

The Norikura Echo Line is a paved road that continues to the highest elevation in Japan. While it is well known that the line can be accessed by shuttle bus to its terminus at Tatamidaira Station (2,700 meters above sea level), it is actually possible to ride a bicycle as well. A major hill climb race is held at the end of the summer, making it a mecca for hill climbers.
E-bikes are available for rent at the tourist center. We recommend that you try hill-climbing on an electric-assist bike while feeling the fresh breeze.

Around Tatamidaira, there is a flower garden where visitors can enjoy a variety of alpine plants. This year, the blooming season is earlier than usual, and alpine plants are now in full bloom one after another. My personal recommendation is the black lily, which has a calm black-purple color.
Easily accessible by shuttle bus, enjoy the spectacular views of Norikura-dake and alpine flora!

The mountain tops are cool even on extremely hot days with temperatures exceeding 35°C (95°F), making them perfect for the coming season.

(2) Ichinose Meadow Walk

While visitors can enjoy a wide variety of vegetation on the plateau, the richness of Ichinose Meadow is exceptional. A recommended route is to start from the trailhead next to the tourist center, cross the Organ Bridge over the stream with a small waterfall, and pass through to Ichinose Meadow. The forests are softened by the sun, and the cool river side is refreshing and perfect for a stroll.

The Ichinose Meadow is a wide expanse of trails with few ups and downs, allowing anyone to enjoy nature at their leisure. There is also a café in the meadow. It is a good place to take a break with a cold drink when you are tired from walking.
