NORIKURA TIMES (Winter Fun Part 1)

Before we know it, January is already half over. At Norikura Highlands, the minimum temperature is dropping below -10°C more and more. While we worry about the lack of snow, the pure white world covered in deep snow is gradually spreading. In this article, we will introduce some fun things to do in winter at Norikura Highlands, as well as some great activities.

1. Zengoro Falls, a spectacular winter sight with its frozen waterfall

Zengoro Falls, one of Norikura's three most famous waterfalls, is characterized by the large amount of water that flows down into a basin with a drop of 20 meters.

From spring to autumn, you can enjoy splashing around, but in the depths of winter, the entire waterfall freezes over and transforms into an impressive frozen waterfall. Because the waterfall freezes over time, the ice is not clear and colorless, but is instead white or pale blue.

The spectacular view of the frozen waterfalls makes you feel the power of nature and the harsh cold of Norikura's winters. Why not take an adventure to Norikura in the winter to see the scenery that can only be seen in the harsh winter?

*Please be careful at Zengoro Falls, as the frozen waterfall may melt and cause ice to fall, or ice and snow may form above the waterfall basin. To enjoy the waterfall safely, we recommend joining a guided tour.

3. Footprints in the snow

Norikura Plateau is a place where pure white scenery spreads out before you. Every morning, it's heartwarming to see the footprints of various creatures growing on the snow. Even animals that are rarely seen between spring and autumn can be felt close by through their footprints. It's also recommended to take a walk while thinking about the footprints leading deep into the forest.
